Memory Tapes (1997-98) involved searching the streets for scraps of abandoned audiotape, which were then photographed where found before being spliced onto a new tape to discover their audio content. Stereoscopic imagery creates a rudimentary 3-D image that combines with the stereo sound to form a complex space of interaction in the viewer’s perception, allowing the tape’s image and its sonic content to intertwine.

The tape’s musical content could well hold personal memories for the viewer. That memories could be stored within abandoned and decaying audiotape suggests a melancholy space of reflection into modern media’s ability to hold onto and let go of the past, an ability that influences the viewer’s sense of self.
