ShadowPlay
On a free-standing screen, a boy is seen using his hands and a gas-lamp to project a shadow-puppet onto an off-screen surface. In this installation these shadows are relocated from a film space, to the gallery wall behind the screen.
This animation merges and distorts recorded analogue light with projected digital light. The screen seems to act like both a solid object, a window and a prism that displays and diffracts the cone of light travelling from the projector, splitting it between the space and time of the film set and gallery location.
